Sue & Dave
This is Paloma's story of her life with us.....

In May 2018 we went to meet and collect a dog, that dog was called Lola

She was going to be euthanised for being nasty and biting

What we were greeted with was an angry little thing with a muzzle on who wanted to rip Dave to shreds ...... I absolutely hate muzzles but this time it was justified with her bite history

Her owner got her into our car and away we went with a conversation along the lines of " what the hell are we going to do with her?" and a few more words !

We got back and decided that the far stable would be her safe place and her bed .......... so off came the muzzle, yes it was a huge risk but it didn't need to be on if she was going to realise we weren't going to harm her - my policy is that no dog comes through our gate with a muzzle on
We couldn't get her collar off cos it was so tight and wasn't worth risking getting bitten and she moved in to the stable - after a few weeks, she let me cut it off

At the time we only had about 20 dogs so she let herself in and out of the stable to say hello and gradually over the next 2 weeks, she learned to trust us, yes Dave got bitten quite a few times but she never tried to bite me........she knew her safe place and always amused us by opening the door and letting herself back in - we used to hear the door banging shut

We never did anything special with her, just let her do her thing, never pressured her into coming in or into having cuddles and she grew to trust us

The most loving, cuddly little thing emerged from that nasty little creature and she loved nothing more that jumping on your knee and give you sloppy kisses

Strange thing was that even though she was secure and happy and knew nothing bad was going to happen to her ......... no one could come in cos she would try to attack them and rip them to shreds if given the chance

Dan always gave me a half hour warning asking "is that horrible little thing with big teeth locked away?"

She had the spirit of a warrior and was totally unique ......... that is why I called her Paloma

We had 7 years of loving her and being loved back
7 years of cheek and laughing at her being silly
7 years of those ears
7 years of photo bombing
7 years of so many cuddles
7 years was not enough

Very sadly our little Vampire Queen grew her angel wings on 18th March 2025 after a short illness

She is missed every single day
